Christmas in Naples entails a month-long celebration, offering a huge variety of events and traditions, rich in Neapolitan flavour. The Chiana district is at the heart of the festivities.

Live music shows and gospel singing take place at various venues throughout the city, including some of the best-preserved historic churches, while theatres (Sannazaro, Teatro Augusteo and Teatro San Carluccio) stage themed performances.

Art galleries offer a selection of exhibitions mapping out the role of Christmas in the arts and libraries host readings, meetings and debates on the subject, providing an overview of how Christmas can inspire creative writing.

Then, of course, there is entertainment for the young ones, from the magical Bosco di Natale, a sort of Christmas forest packed with hidden presents, to the Circo Vagante, performing a series of acrobatic shows in more than 10 different piazzas.

The Christmas Village is new in 2006, where local artisans share their expertise and passion for craft-making.
